National Tally Centre for Malawi Elections take Shape

Some redesigning and space demarcation is underway at the National Tally Centre in the Comesa Hall in Blantyre. The hall is where the elections results will be tallied and released. A spot visit by the African Election Team in Malawi found several construction workers working into the wee hours of Friday at eleven days to May 19th.

According to an oficial of the Malawi Electoral Commission, they are happy with the progress of the work on site. Some of the space in the building will be used by various political parties, observers, the media and other stakeholders.

The team however could not establish if the centre will be ready by polling day May 19th.

Beyond polling day, Malawians will have their ears and eyes glued to the certified results coming out of this centre whose critical role will likely to stretch from the night to May 21 if a previous pattern is to be expected.

The Comesa Hall, probably the biggest in the city is within walking distance from Malawi Broadcasting Corporation, the High Court, University of Malawi and the Police.
