Malawi Elections 2009 : Ballot papers distribution starts on May 13

Ballot papers distribution starts on May 13

The distribution of the ballot papers for the May 19 presidential and Parliamentary elections to the polling centres will start on 13 May, Malawi Electoral Commission (EC) has said.
EC spokes person Fergus Lipenga said the ballot paper will be distributed from Kamuzu International Airport where they are being kept to all the polling stations.
There are 4000 polling stations and Lipenga was optimistic that the exercise will be through in good time before the polling day.
"We don't think it will be a difficult job because we are starting from a central area in Lilongwe which makes it easy to get to all corners of Malawi," he said.
In a related development Lipenga said printing of the final voters roll will start on 12 May and it will be done internally in Blantyre.
Last week EC Chairperson Anastansia Msosa said indicated that the printing exercise will take up to six days.
But she clarified that priority on the distribution of the voters roll will be given to northern region because of the distance.
"We will not wait for the whole exercise to finish before we start distribution, but we will be sending whatever copies we have printed to the north so that the voters roll get there in good time and we will finish with the southern region," she said.
Considering the six days of printing, Msosa said some polling stations especially in Blantyre will get the voters roll on the eve of voting.
