Malawi Elections May 19th 2009 Presidential Candidates

The Malawi Electoral Commission is informing the public that it has determined and accepted nomination papers from the following Presidential Candidates according to a press released issued by the commission on 20th March 2009 and signed by Justice A.S.E. Msosa, chair person of the commission :

1. Ms Loveness Gondwe of the New Rainbow Coalition.
2. Mr. James Nyondo, Independent Candidate.
3. Mr. John Tembo of the Malawi Congress Party.
4. Mr. Stanley Masauli of the Republican Party.
5. Mr. Dindi Gowa Nyasulu of Alliance For Democracy.
6. Mr. Kamuzu Chibambo of PETRA.
7. Dr. Bingu Wa Mutharika of the Democratic Progressive Party.

The Commission has rejected nomination papers for Dr. Bakili Muluzi of the United Democratic Front.

Meanwhile, the Commission has accepted nomination papers for all Parliamentary candidates who presented their papers between 2^nd and 6^th February 2009 except for Yeremiah Chihana of New Rainbow Coalition.

In the meantime, the Commission is scrutinizing the papers received on 17^th and 18^th March 2009.
